Peppermint Cocoa Almond Milkshakes

You’ll love this Peppermint Cocoa Milkshake. A copycat of Chick-Fil-A’s Peppermint Milkshake but with a twist! This milkshake can be served traditionally with cow’s milk or as a dairy-free sweet treat! Grab a straw or spoon and be ready to dig in!

How to Make a Peppermint Milkshake Dairy-Free

Making a milkshake is as easy as 1, 2, 3.

Step One: crush your peppermint candies and shave your chocolate. Doing this before you put it into the blender will ensure that your milkshake doesn’t become overwhipped and turn into some sort of peppermint butter.

Step Two: Add all your ingredients to the blender with the liquid on the bottom. Pouring the liquid into the bottom of the blender first will help your blades move more freely.

Step Three: Once you have the perfect consistency, serve it up in fun glasses with a peppermint candy rim or a generous portion of whipped cream! Tip: to rim a glass with sugar, salt, candies, etc. you first need to dip the rim in either lemon juice, honey, or corn syrup depending on the drink.

Make it Dairy-Free

To make this milkshake dairy-free, use dairy-free ice cream, almond milk, and non-dairy whipped topping.

What to top your milkshake with

Whipped cream, shaved chocolate, sprinkles, crushed peppermints, a dusting of cinnamon, shaved almonds, the list goes on! Anything you would put on an ice cream sundae, including the cherry, is fair game!

Troubleshooting your milkshake

Milkshake is too thin

To get a really nice, thick milkshake, you’ll want to make sure your solid to liquid ratio is higher. However, to keep adding more and more ice cream can seem like a waste (and a lot of calories). An easy solution is to add some ice cubes. The crushed ice will thicken the milkshake up quickly and easily.

Milkshake is too thick

Did your blender stop in the process of blending? It happens sometimes. Simply add 1/2 cup of milk or almond milk to your blender and pulse a few times. This will loosen everything up until it becomes the consistency you would like.

Milkshake separates

This could be a problem with your blender. Not all blenders are created equal. This is the one I use and love.

Ingredients
  

  • 1 cup vanilla bean ice cream 3 scoops
  • â…“ cup milk (I used unsweetened vanilla almond milk)
  • ¼ cup roasted almonds
  • 1 tsp unsweetened cocoa powder
  • â…› teaspoon peppermint extract
  • Garnish: Crushed almonds, a sprinkle of cocoa powder, and whipped cream

Instructions
 

  • Place all ingredients except garnishes into blender. Combine on high speed until thick and creamy.
  • If a thicker consistency is desired, add a couple of ice cubes or some crushed ice and blend again. If a thinner consistency is desired, add a little more milk.
  • Garnish with crushed almonds, a dusting of cocoa powder, and whipped cream. Serve cold.

  1. YUM!!!! I don’t know about this picture being cluttered – all I see is that shake! I could make a dairy free version with almond milk – which would further compliment those Planters Almonds! Btw – adding almonds to the shake releases you from doofus qualifications 😉

    1. I made my almond milkshake semi dairy free, Shashi. I use vanilla almond milk in everything… even my cereal! I just can’t quite get used to dairy free ice cream, though. Had to use the real deal there 🙂

  4. Oh gosh, I know how you feel. I’ve fallen down our stairs way more times than I’d like to admit. Even got a few concussions out of it, and the doctors asking those “did someone do this to you” type questions! Umm no…just super uncoordinated lol! Your shake sounds (and looks) so delicious!
